Loading Speed Impact: Real Numbers

The shop sold handmade furniture. Their image-heavy site was driving visitors away before products loaded.

Initial Metrics

Page load time: 6.2 seconds. Bounce rate on mobile: 71%. Only 340 visitors per month completed purchases.

Optimization Process

We compressed product images from an average 2.4MB to 180KB. Implemented lazy loading. Minified CSS and JavaScript. Switched to a faster hosting provider. New load time: 1.8 seconds.

Two-Month Results

  • Mobile bounce rate decreased to 38%
  • Completed purchases increased to 580 monthly
  • Cart abandonment dropped from 81% to 54%
  • Average order value rose slightly from $340 to $385

Mobile Changed Most

Desktop users showed modest improvements, but mobile conversions nearly tripled. The 4.4-second reduction mattered more on slower connections. Speed affects real revenue.
