Navigation Menu Analysis: User Behavior
The studio's website had detailed service pages, but visitors left after viewing one page. Average session duration was 41 seconds.
What the Data Showed
Heatmap tracking revealed visitors hovered over menu items repeatedly without clicking. The problem wasn't visibility; it was clarity. Menu labels like "Sessions" and "Experiences" were vague.
The Restructure
We changed abstract labels to specific ones: "Wedding Photography," "Family Portraits," "Corporate Headshots." We reduced menu items from eight to five, grouping related services.
Measured Changes
- Session duration increased to 2 minutes 18 seconds
- Pages per session went from 1.3 to 3.7
- Contact form submissions up 28%
- Bounce rate dropped from 67% to 43%
The clearer navigation helped visitors find relevant information faster. Specific language removed guesswork. The studio also reported more qualified leads because visitors understood services before contacting them.
